My girl is turning 7 tomorrow but we had her birthday party this past weekend. For those who don’t know me, I LOVE birthday parties, and I LOVE going overboard. 🙂
Hayden has a knack of asking for a theme that just gets popular so there aren’t many decorations or ideas to chose from. It happened a couple years ago with Sofia, and this year it was Descendants. I actually like the challenge so here is the party…
It starts with an invitation…
Then the day arrives and we get to decorate! Yea!
The birthday banner! Using my silhouette machine to cut each letter and the triangles as well as the Mal & Maleficent logos. I created those logos in Illustrator and turning them into SVG files for cutting. A simple black ribbon is stringing it across our fireplace. This is where our birthday girl sits to open her presents.
Then there is the giant banner that we hang in the playroom/front room area. After the party this moves to bedrooms until they get tired of it. I get my banners printed at Walgreens and have been lucky to use a 40 – 50% off coupon each time. I love the quality and I think they turn out great!
Our kitchen table is where the majority of our interaction is. I cover the island with a black table cloth and purchased green & purple plates, cups, napkins & silverware.
Top Left: The drink became a Potion of grape soda (the sugar free kind) and ice-cream. I printed all the logos on sticker paper & cut them out to put on the cups. Original potion from Southern Revivals..
Top Right: Chocolate Chip Cookies for Mal’s Love Spell Cookies.
Bottom Left: Scooby snacks for Carlos Dog Treats & the cake was an ice-cream cake from Hy-vee. I took in the invitation and that rotten to the core image and they did everything else. If you look closely to the side of the cake you can see that it is purple brick.
Bottom Right: Mal’s Spell Book. I bought a book box from Michael’s (the ones that look like a real book, but when you open the top it is open to store items inside) and then covered the outside with brown kraft paper, then added the book logo. I found the design online and again recreated it in Illustrator and cut it out with my Silhouette. FYI – this was a hit with the girls. Each one had to carry it around and now it lives in Hayden’s room to store her valuables. I do admit it is super cute.

The gift bag aka the “thanks for coming to my party and buying me a gift” bag. These were super fun to make and only the adults who have seen the movie really got these. Purple & green bags were used with a sticker on the outside with the name of each kid as well as one of the logos. Here is what I included.
Mal’s Love Spell Cookies: The same chocolate chip cookies from the snack table. There was on cookie in a sandwich baggie along with the printable.
Jay’s Bag of Gold: Purchased gold coins from the party store, wrapped them in tulle and tied the tag together with a black ribbon. Vanilla Waffers was the backup option.
Carlos Dog Treats: Graham Cracker Scooby Snacks. We put a handful in a snack baggie and then stapled the printable to the top of the bag.
I also created a magnet for each child with their name on it as a take-a-way item as well. These were not in the bags as we stuck them to the wall throughout the house to use as decorations. Then when each kid left they had to find the one with their name on it. I usually do something for the walls with names on them (giant band-aids for the Doc McStuffins party). Walgreens sent out a 1 day coupon for 99¢ magnets. It was an awesome deal so this was a spur of the moment decision.
That’s it. 4 weeks of research and pinning and creating vectors and printing and cutting to create this. A one day event that is over way to quickly and not understood how much time and effort went into it. But all it takes is one smile like this one to make it all worth it.
